Amigraine(偏头痛) can cause disabling pain. People may not fed back to normal forhours or even days. Migraines are most common among young adults and middle-agedpeople. In the United States, about eighteen percent of women and six percent ofmen are reported having migraines.
Peoplewho suffer from migraines can find that different "triggers" (诱因)in differentpeople may get a headache started. Stress can act as a trigger. So can chocolatein some people. Many migraine sufferers say hot weather and low barometricpressure (大气压) can act as triggers. But researchers say they did not have muchscientific evidence of thatuntil now.
Ina new study, a team examined the medical records of seven thousand hospitalpatients. The patients had visited the emergency room at Beth Israel DeaconessMedical Center in Boston,Massachusetts, because of a headache. More than twothousand of them had been found to have a migraine.
Theteam then compared those records to weather conditions in the twenty-four hoursbefore the patients visited. For every increase of five degrees Celsius in airtemperature, the patients had a seven and one-half percent higher risk ofmigraine. Decreases in barometric pressure two to three days the patients alsoappeared to trigger off headaches, but to a lesser extent.
Theresearchers found no evidence that air pollution influenced headaches. But theycould not rule out the possibility of a smaller effect similar to that seenearlier for strokes.
Aseparate study has found that age, gender and where a person has extra body fatmay affect the risk of migraine. It found that overweight people between theages of twenty and fifty-five may have a higher risk. On average, those who werelarger around the middle were more likely to have migraines than those of thesame age with smaller waistlines.

Whateverthe mind can conceive (构想) and believe. it can achieve.
Wouldyou agree with the statement that a dream is born from an idea-a simple ideaconceived in the mind?
Bornin the 19th century, two brothers had an idea which eventually became theirpassionate (热衷的) and consuming dream. Their never-ending pursuit of that dreamwas rewarded with an accomplishment that changed the world travel.
OnFriday December 17,1903 at 10:35 a.m.,the Wright brothers(Wilbur and Orville)achieved their dream. They flew the world's first power-driven,heavier-than -airmachine in which man made free, controlled, and sustained flight. This memorablewonder took place at Kitty Hawk,North Carolina, USA,on a cold windy morning.
Thedream started with an idea that was planted in their minds by a toy given tothem by their father. In the world of the toys,"late in the autumn of 1878,ourfather came into the house one evening with some object partly hidden in hishands, and before we could see what it was, he tossed it into the air. Instead offalling to the floor,as we expected,it flew across the room till it struck theceiling, where it fluttered (飘动) a while, and finally sank to the floor." Thissimple toy made of bamboo, cork and stretched rubber bands, fascinated the Wrightbrothers and sparked their lifelong interest in human flight.
TheWright brothers were great thinkers. They enjoyed learning new things.First, they recycled broken parts, built a printing press and opened their ownprinting office. Their interest moved to bicycles and in 1893, they opened theWright Cycle Company where they sold and repaired bicycles. But Wilbur (theelder brother) had his mind set on something more exciting. He decided toseriously pursue flying.
Thebrothers spent many hours researching, testing their machines and makingimprovements after unsuccessful attempts at human flight. What started out as ahobby soon became a passion. With determination and patience they realized theirdream in 1903.

Likemany other small boys, I was fascinated by cars, not least because my oldestbrother was a bit of a car guy and subscribed to cool magazines like Car andDriver and Motor Trend. Every so often, one of those magazines would run anarticle on the “Car of the Future”. They featured unconventional styling andthings like small nuclear reactors as power sources. Yet, frankly, my cardoesn’t do anything that my brother’s Studebaker didn’t do. It goes, it stops,it burns gasoline, it plays music. I still have to steer it, and it still runsinto things if I don’t steer it carefully.
Butguess what? All of these things are subject to change in the not-so-distantfuture. It will still go and stop, but it may not burn gasoline, I may not haveto steer it, and it may be a lot better at not running into things.
Airbagsaren't the be-all and end-all in safety. In fact, considering the recent newsabout people occasionally being killed by their airbags in low-speed collisions(碰撞),they obviously still need some development. But they aren't going away, andin fact, you can expect to see cars appearing with additional, side-impactairbags, something some European car manufacturers already offer.
Betterthan systems to minimize (使减少到最低限度) injury in the event of an accident, however, are systems that minimize the likelihood of an accident happening in the firstplace. Future cars may be able to eliminate many of the major causes ofaccidents, including drunk-driving, tailgating (与前车距离过近) and sleepiness. Carscould be equipped with sensors that can detect alcohol in a driver's system andprevent the car from being started, for example. Many accidents are caused bypeople following the car in front too closely. As early as next year, you'll beable to buy cars with radar-equipped control systems. If the radar determinesyou're closing too quickly with the car in front, it will ease up on thethrottle (油门). For city streets, expect other radar devices that will giveadvance warning that the car in front of you has slowed abruptly (突然地) and youshould step on the brakes-or that may even brake for you.
Willcars eventually be able to drive themselves? There's no reason to think it won'tbe technically possible, and Mercedes is working on a system that can brake, accelerate and steer a vehicle down a highway on its own. Nobody really expectspeople to give up all control to their cars, but such systems could be used asfailsafe systems to keep cars on the road and bring them safely to a stop evenif the driver suddenly became disabled.
71.Why was the author fascinated by cars?
A.Because other small boys liked to own a car of their own, too.
B.Because he read exotic things about cars in his brother's magazines.
C.Because his oldest brother loved to take him to places in his car.
D.Because he subscribed to cool car magazines.
72.By saying "my car doesn't do anything that my brother's Studebaker didn’t do",the author
meansthat_____.
A.my car is far better than my brother's
B.my car is not as good as my brother's
C.not much has changed in the performance of cars so far
D.much improvement has been made in the design of cars recently
73.Which of the following statements is true of airbags?
A.They are in need of further improvement.
B.They are going to disappear gradually.
C.They kill people instead of protecting them in low-speed collisions.
D.They are a standard feature of European cars.
74.According to the author, what will future cars do if the sensors detect alcoholin the driver's
system?
A.They will give a warning in advance. B. They will brake automatically.
C.They will ease up on the throttle. D. They will not start.
75.Which of the following statements is true according to the last paragraph?
A.People will give up all control to their cars.
B.Cars will be able to drive themselves.
C.No cars will ever break down on the roads.
D.Cars will all be equipped with failsafe systems.
第Ⅱ卷(共35分)
第四部分写作(共二节, 满分35分)
第一节阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分, 满分10分)
阅读下面的短文,根据短文后的要求回答问题(注意问题后字数的要求)
Inour culture, the sources of what we call a sense of “mastery” —feeling importantand worthwhile—and the sources of what we call a sense of “pleasure”—findinglife enjoyable—are not always the same. In the past women often were told “Youcan’t have it all.” Sometimes what the speaker really is saying is: “You choosea career, so you can’t expect to have closer relationships or a happy familylife.” or “You have a wonderful husband and children—what’s all this aboutwanting a career?” But today women need to_____________, if they are to feelgood about themselves.
Ourstudy shows that, for women, well-being has two aspects. One is mastery, whichincludes self-respect, a sense of control over your life, and low levels ofanxiety and depression. Mastery is closely related to the “doing” side of life,to work and activity. Pleasure is the other aspect, and it is made up ofhappiness, satisfaction and optimism. It is tied more closely to the “feeling”side of life. The two are independent of each other. A woman could be high inmastery and low in pleasure, and vice versa(反之亦然). For example, a woman who hasa good job, but whose mother has just died, might be feeling very good aboutherself and in control of her work life, but the pleasure side could be damagedfor a time.
Theconcepts of mastery and pleasure can help us identify the sources of well-beingfor women, and correct past mistakes. In the past, women were encouraged to lookonly at the feeling side of life as the source of all well-being. But we knowthat both mastery and pleasure are important. And mastery seems to be achievedlargely through work. In our study, all the groups of employed women were valuedsignificantly higher in mastery than women who were not employed.
Awoman’s well-being is developed when she takes on multiple roles. At least bymiddle adulthood, the women who were involved in a combination ofroles—marriages, motherhood, and employment—were the highest in well-being, inspite of warnings about stress and strain.
